In Loving Memory

This week my family has to say goodbye to a dear relative of ours. This past Saturday my grandpa passed away at the nursing home he has been staying in. He didn't exactly die from any one thing. He did have various things that he was dealing with. Grandpa had a heart problem, diabetes, a blood cancer, and you could even add old age in the bunch. He lived 87 good years! And for the most part, he did live a healthy life. I didn't even know he had blood cancer until about a month ago!! And he's had it for about 10 years. It didn't even really affect him..any way that was visible anyway. His diabetes didn't hold too much on him either as he loved his mountain dew, cheetohs, chocolate stars, and sour gummy worms! If you looked in one of his dresser drawers you were always guaranteed to find some goodies. :)
It's hard saying goodbye to a loved one, but we know he really is in a better place. These past few weeks had been so hard on him. He was in so much pain. Eventually he chose not to take his medications anymore and he was refusing to eat most of his meals. So after all of that pain I am comforted in knowing that even though he's gone, he's not suffering anymore because he's with the Lord! Walking the streets of gold with his wife and son! I'm looking forward to them meeting me at the gate someday!
We miss you lots granpda. But thankfully we have a lot of good memories to hold close to our hearts. We will see you again someday. It's only happy tears!
I was in the cities with my cousins when we found out the news. We were driving around and happened to hear a really fitting song on the radio that we're going to use at the funeral. Here are the lyrics:

When I Get Where I'm Going - Geoff Moore
Genre/Lang. :
Christian

When I get where I’m going On the far side of the sky
The first thing that I’m gonna do Is spread my wings and fly
I’m gonna land beside a lion And run my fingers through his mane
Or I might find out what it’s like To ride a drop of rain

Chorus: Yeah, when I get where I’m going There’ll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles I have carried all these years
And I’ll leave my heart wide open I will love and have no fear
Yeah, when I get where I’m going
Don’t cry for me down here I’m gonna walk with my granddaddy
And he’ll match me step for step
And I’ll tell him how I’ve missed him
Every minute since he left
So much pain and so much darkness
This world we stumble through
All these questions I can’t answer
So much work to do
But when I get where I’m going
And I see my maker’s face
I’ll stand forever in the light
Of His amazing grace

Thank you for the nice post. Grandpa was very unique and has given me many funny memories. It is truely comforting to know he is in no more pain and enjoying an eternity of heaven. Thank you for finding the song and ordering the CD. It was fun to be with you this weekend--thanks for all of your help with Adelyn!
I love you

What a nice thing you wrote for him, Amber. Definitely, he can't wait to see you again. I can picture your grandpa's arrival to Heaven: Angels dancing around him, music, singing.. a place where one will see colors they have never seen before and definitely so much more. And the best of all.. Jesus showing him around!
